A picture will capture somebodies attention much more faster than the average title and text. Like in this example, it allows the reader to first identify what the picture is, and then makes them curious about the text and content that is around it.
In this post, I’ll give you seven different websites that provide free pictures for you to use on their posts. Without further reading, here they are:
- Flickr.com – The world’s largest website for pictures.. With thousands upon thousands of new ones uploaded each day.
- Stock.xchng – You will find quality photos here. All of them are very well done and look highly professional.
- StockVault – Great user interface and easy to look at gallery provides an optimal user experience.
- EveryStockPhoto – This website takes photos from Flickr and other Stock Photo Websites and presents them to you. Great for variety.
- MorgueFile – Simple Website With Excellent Search Results.
- Imageafter – It has a great variety of pictures from different users, although the design could be a little better. (Pixels + Dark Blue Background was so two years ago
) - PixelPerfectDigital – Not as many results as the first six, but has categories that are easy to scroll through and find what you are looking for.

Hi, I have only tried Fickr out of these, but its good to know there are options. Still I am a little confused when using pics from these sites. Do you have to contact the member who submitted the photo before posting it in a blog or can I use them without contacting?

@ Archie – Usually the pictures have a “Usage” policy.. For example, some state that they must be credited… Usually I just link to the picture I use in the posts which for me counts as a “creditation”.
Then there are others where they say they must be notified… but I highly doubt that anybody is going to register and notify the user about the picture they used in their post.
Quite personally I believe that linking the actual picture to the source is quite enough.
Nice page thanks for sites

I have not heard of most of these. Great list, thank you for the resources!Question for you: is it best to place photos in the left corner like you demonstrated? Just curious if that is a strategy of some sort. Thanks again!

What you wrote about linking the image makes sense. Probably its better “creditation” than just writing their username somewhere since they can actually get some traffic to their other pictures. I didn’t think of it before. Thanks for the tip Brad.

Imagine my surprise at seeing my photograph looking at me on this blog! Not that I’m not flattered that you wanted to use my image but perhaps you could have either asked my permission or linked the image back to my Flickr page?
?
@ Shauna – The actual image is linked back to your page, is that a problem??
Thanks, Brad.
