If you are at all curious about editing your Wordpress theme or trying to code your own template, this program will please you in ways that generic templates never could. I love to tweak Wordpress to the max and find this program to really enable me to do so.

The program is called XAMPP and contains everything you need to install Wordpress in a single installation file (Apache Server, MYSQL Database, PHP Installation). It is as simple as:

  1. Downloading the files (Win, Mac or Linux)
  2. Installation of the files
  3. Launching the program and turning on the following: Apache, MYSQL
  4. Installing Wordpress like on a normal server

Once done, you can simply download your theme files (and optionally, your posts) to your local installation of Wordpress and begin tweaking your code.. Without damaging anything that is on the internet.

If you break something in your files, simply overwrite from your server and start again!

For more information about how to do this, please see the following articles:

yes sir it is easier to do some editing to our site, since the three components php, apache and mysql installed in one place, so I think it is easier than install them one by one

I’ve been using XAMPP for a long time to learn PHP and MYSQL. I have installed Wordpress and Joomla and works perfectly. anyone thinking serious about learning PHP or MYSQL should start using this program. of course you can always install the applications bundled on this program separetely. but why the hassle? when you can install them with a few clicks with XAMPP.
