What is going on with Alexa?

May.22, 2008
8

Alexa LogoOur blog has been staying steadily at 180k - 185k for an Alexa Traffic Ranking and now has increased to 195k. The thing that struck us the most is that our blog traffic had increased exponentially since we started our techonrati exchange and aiming for different keywords for S.E.R.P.S.

“Alexa toolbar users’ interests and surfing habits could differ from those of the general population in a number of ways, and we described some of those possible differences on our website. While the vast majority of sites’ rankings were unaffected by such differences, we’ve worked hard on our new ranking system to adjust for situations in which they could matter.

The new rankings should better reflect the interests and surfing habits of the broader population of Web users.”

Looking at that statement they made on their “Official” announcement, We could help but think to ourselves that they were referring to blogs as that is what more and more people each day are reading/creating. So that could explain why numerous blogs got slapped by Alexa when they started implementing their new algorithm.

We have noticed the change on our blog, has anything happened on your blog? (Good or Bad)

  • Net Audio Ads - Insane Cash Or Blog Misfortune

    May.10, 2008
    2

Concluding from yesterday’s post about music and why you shouldn’t use it on your blog, I am here to talk to you today about Net Audio Ads and general audio advertising on blogs.

This new system was introduced last year when the company first invented the code and website to start this advertising solution up. Basically, you insert code on your website and everytime a visitor looks at your site, a short 5 second ad is played..making you money. Will that annoy visitors though?

    The Pros:

    The Cons:

In the end, its really up to the individual whether they use this system.

    The Keyword Search-Engine Checklist

    Mar.29, 2008
    0

SEO ChecklistTo target a keyword for search engine exposure, we first need to understand how to do it effectively.

My previous post asked readers 5 questions about how they blog, where their traffic comes from, etc.. and 4 of the 7 responses said that Google provided them with the greatest amounts of hits after Stumbleupon. So in order to start gaining more hits from Google from the keywords that you use in blogging, I would like to offer a check-list that I use to achieve the maximum exposure from search engines.

    1. Does your title have the main keywords in the first 3 words? If not, revise your title. (From personal experiences, I find that the closer the keywords are that you are targeting to the start, the better the ranking)
    2. How many times does your keyword appear in your article? Search engines use the first 160 words to compose a description so if you don’t have your keyword there, revise your starting paragraph. (Again, from personal experiences, I usually see the bolded keywords in the search results closer to the starting showing up higher the rankings than other ones.)
    3. Did you use ALL-IN-ONE-SEO to set the keywords for your post? If not, It doesn’t matter..continue writing your article (Many people are saying that it doesn’t matter what keywords matter for your posts, its all in the titles and descriptions)

Most people say that a good amount of keywords in a post are about a 5% ratio. - But in all honesty, no blogger is really going to take the time to calculate it. C’est la vie.

Hopefully this list will help you gain more hits via Google and if you see something not mentioned here, tell me about it! What do you do to gain a good ranking in Google?

Brad Blog Visitor Question Mark Questionaire

I’ve decided to ask my visitors a simple question, in anticipation of their responses.

    1. What Drives the Most Traffic To Your Site?? (Excluding the most likely obvious network: Stumbleupon)
    2. Do you include social network icons at the bottom of your posts?
    3. If yes to question 2, how many?
    4. On an average week, how many “Organic” hits from Google do you receive?
    5. Finally, How do you plan to improve on those statistics. (EG - Broader Keywords, Diverse Blog Posts, etc)

What Is The Next-Best Website? PT - 1

    Feb.15, 2008

First came Google back in 1998, and rose to everyday knowledge by around 2003 - when it really started to become popular. Used in countless movies and billions of people per day, it is the ultimate search engine clearly destroying every other one.

Then came Myspace in 2004 which traffic has been increasing yearly by about 2% of the internet population (and still is). Despite viruses and other server glitches, it has still been the ultimate place to meet new people for many years.

After the majority of people got bored of Myspace they searched for an alternative and found Facebook which started in 2006 which increased their traffic to 6% in only 2 short years!

These sites are great and draw people to their sites for reasons..The ability to search things and the easy to use interface, so my question today is: “What is the next Myspace/Digg/Facebook multi billion dollar website?”
