Our blog has been staying steadily at 180k – 185k for an Alexa Traffic Ranking and now has increased to 195k. The thing that struck us the most is that our blog traffic had increased exponentially since we started our techonrati exchange and aiming for different keywords for S.E.R.P.S.
“Alexa toolbar users’ interests and surfing habits could differ from those of the general population in a number of ways, and we described some of those possible differences on our website. While the vast majority of sites’ rankings were unaffected by such differences, we’ve worked hard on our new ranking system to adjust for situations in which they could matter.
The new rankings should better reflect the interests and surfing habits of the broader population of Web users.”
Looking at that statement they made on their “Official” announcement, We could help but think to ourselves that they were referring to blogs as that is what more and more people each day are reading/creating. So that could explain why numerous blogs got slapped by Alexa when they started implementing their new algorithm.
We have noticed the change on our blog, has anything happened on your blog? (Good or Bad)

@ Blogatiser – I guess traffic and toolbars aren’t the only thing they judge it on? Only time will tell.
@ John – Uh oh
Thanks for the stumbles, I’ll head over to your blog and choose a couple articles to feature on Stumbleupon soon.
@ Oldsailor – Great job, I wouldn’t know either.
Currently I’m not ranked on Alexa. I need some more traffic in order to accomplish that. @jsinkeywest How do you send so much traffic? You sent approximately 300 people to my site over the course of a couple of hours. I loved seeing those numbers and want to know what you do to accomplish that.

I heared the announcement that alexa has changed its ranking algorithm. I am little happy with this change because my website got little improvment. see new alexa ranking for http://www.alexa.com/data/details/main?url=www.fortunehotels.in Fortune Park Hotels Ltd.
Alexa rankings are such a mystery to me. Of course I watch mine obsessively just like I watch the scale. And just like I feel frustrated and disappointed when the numbers on the scale go up, I feel frustrated and disappointed with the numbers on my Alexa ranking go up.
I was around 150,000 last summer and fall when I was a dropping fiend through Entrecard, but dropping at 300 other sites was time consuming and I was not turning those return visits to my place into readers.
People were just stopping by to click on the ad and then leaving. What’s the point in that?
So I stopped dropping and my ranking has begun to plummet. I am currently at 260,000.
Something I fail to understand and would love to see an explanatory post on is this: how can someone have an Alexa rank of over 300,000 and yet receive an average of 60 comments per post? Also, how can someone have roughly 500-700 feed reader subscriptions and an Alexa ranking of over 300,000?
I suppose with the feed readers most of the readers could simply view the post in the reader and never actually visit the site, thereby explaining the Alexa rank.
However, the folks who are receiving so many comments and yet have a ranking of over 300K really mystify me. Do you have any idea how or why that is happening?
It isn’t really a factor of what I consider blogging to be about.. Building relationships, providing useful content, and perhaps, making a little money off of it as well!
It all really depends on how many people VISIT your blog, not so much the feedreader (unless they click through to your site). Alexa calculates the rating based on pure pageviews and doesn’t take RSS into consideration. Perhaps try to rank for a couple of highly searched terms on google, and add their widget to your website! That really helps me maintain a good ranking.
