If you’re trying to promote your blog or business website online, it can be a daunting task to begin. In this article, I talk about 5 different (free) methods of website promotion that anyone can pick up and start utilizing today. You could always use Google Adwords to promote your website, but not everyone has the available capital to spend on this promotion method (especially the new webmasters).
Here are some of my favourite methods of free promotion that not many people use to their advantage:
1) Using SEO Effectively:
Use SEO or Search Engine Optimization to increase the flow of traffic to your website. SEO methods, if done properly will push your website on top of the search engine results. This is the most effective way to promote a website or business through the internet.
It can be time consuming to achieve this which is why most people hire SEO experts to promote their websites. You could also discover how to do it yourself if you had enough time to learn the techniques and tricks to getting on the first page of Google and Yahoo without paying horrendous amounts to the search engine companies.
All-In-One-SEO is currently the only plugin I use for SEO – its a great tool.
2) Consistent Blogging
Aside from having your own company website, you can boost your presence on the net by creating a blog. A blog like WordPress, Blogger, etc, allow you to use plug-ins and its features to optimize your content, photos and posts on the search engines. By inputting keyword rich content on your blog, you enable the search engines to get a very good idea about what your article is about.
A blog also lets you actively participate in the blogging community, build internet relationships and links that lead back to your main website. A good tip to widening your presence in blog communities is to leave comments on other people’s blogs that are relevant to yours. This increases the chances of improving flow of traffic back to your own blog.
3) Linking Out More Often
Webmasters help each other by putting links of other sites and blogs on their own website. It’s a great way to get free promotion and helping each other on the internet. It is important that you link your site to a relevant website to be able to attract the right kind of people into your site. This method is usually reciprocal in nature where both parties benefit in posting each other’s links. If your site is linked by a highly reputable site then you’ve got a much better chance to succeed with any SEO efforts.
4) The Ezine Method
Another highly effective SEO method is writing articles and submitting them to article websites such as Ezine Articles and Article Base. You can have your articles published for free on these websites, which serve as article directories on the net. It’s important to use keywords for these articles to make it easier for potential clients to find you. Your published articles will usually have a link or anchor text at the bottom or somewhere in the article that leads the readers back to your website.
This is a method that I’ve seen popping up more and more lately, probably because a good Ezine article can attract steady traffic from 3rd party sources. It would be worth your while to check out this method.
5) Social Networking
Another helpful way to improve your internet presence is to join social networking sites. You can create a profile for free on these social networking sites. Choose networking sites that are more business related rather than sites that are more for personal chat purposes. Join more than one of these sites to improve internet presence and gain more business contacts.
Linkedin is a very professional network that gives you direct access to other bloggers’ contact information and websites.

Using All in One SEO is an effective technique, I have used it on microblogs and got straight to the top of google. Its worth installing.
I agree with you there Andy – I was really surprised at how much of an impact this plugin made on my SERP’s.
Brad,
I have used all five of those methods and can vouch for their efficacy. Linking out more often can be a great way to build trust for your website. However, you need to make sure that the sources you link to are also trustworthy themselves.
SEO is very important if you want high converting organic search engine traffic.
Kathy – The links that could be “questionable” can always be no-followed to avoid any conflict with the search engines and your website’s trust.
Thanks for your comment!
Really consistent blogging and regular visits to other blogs to comment and participate do a lot for the traffic on my site.
Those are some excellent methods – I have utilized them myself!
these tips are great. one must not forget the online social media marketing as this is becoming more popular especially since the new “like” button on facebook came out.

You won’t regret it.. This plugin is the best in the field.
Love the SEO All in One plugin! It’s my favourite
I think the point you make about consistent blogging is great. People tend to overlook the most obvious and writing material for your site as many times a week as you can.
I always hate to see blogs that are hardly ever updated… especially when they are blogs I really love.
Yeah – I’ve kind of broken my own rule with this blog.. I really need to get back into the habit of posting consistently!
All the Techniques are good but Seo is very broad field and all the terms comes under this sec and this is very fast and useful media to promote your business online…

As a SEO I want to state that for web promotion only good back links and good contents are required
Thank you Brad for a nice post. I have already knew all the tips except “Ezine method” – that looks very interesting. I will definitely give it a try.
thank you for your sharing! it is a great article, very interesting and useful
yes andurstand
Youtube is a great resource. The main thing I try to do is to make sure my link is at the top of the description box, because otherwise people might not click the expand button to find the weblink. So, I link at the top, and have a short description when I use Youtube.
Just another tip that I hope helps someone out there.
Good backlinks are they key to major success when it comes to SEO, FACT!
this post really made my day
great work mate i definitely visit your blog again and refer it to my friends
Yes, I think that linking out is a good idea. I don’t think it’s a huge factor in SEO, but I’ve often read that Google does get an idea about the quality of the site site by what it links to, as well as what’s linking to it. And that makes perfect sense of course.
Although it’s hard to tell for sure, I have found that linking out to quality sites does seem to lift my rankings more. So I recommend it.
The fact is I think we all know what we are supposed to do, but it takes a lot of time and effort to blog consistently. I get tired of writing articles just for SEO, so now I have chosen different means.
I admit, that this is a great post. Thank you Brad. For me also “Ezine method” – was the most interesting one.
Hi Brad, these are all good points. I would also add social bookmarking to the list. I’ve managed to get lots of free traffic to my site through sites such as StumbleUpon and BisSugar.com
A great tool to use for your SEO starting place is the Google Keywords Tool. Find out which keywords are least competitive in your industry
According to my experience social network links are not too much helpful to the the ranking of the site.
I’m glad you posted this. It’s pretty much exactly what I’ve been looking for. Thanks for the tips!
