Alright, well I have a couple of updates about this “Hacked Blog” issue:
The Updates:
- Problem wasn’t caused by German Hackers (my allegations were stemmed from the spam comments that were left – I apologize.), rather by an American code who’s plugin went crazy.
- If your running “Comment Relish” and you get this error, disable the plugin and reinstall Wordpress as thats what worked for me.
- It was a great plugin, but I’ve now deactivated it due to the troubles it causes.
I found this out when I went to activate all of the plugins from the re-installation!
So if you get the following error message:
Error: The Email Could Not Be Sent
The Host May Of Disabled The ()mail Feature!
Simply disable the Comment Relish Plugin!

Thank you for this article.
Your Welcome. I don’t really know if this is genuine, or a missed spam comment.
whoah, so you were hacked via a plugin? or was the plugin just messed up??
And just another question, if you could not get into your homepage, how can a person get in to the admin section of their website to disable the plugin like you said??
It was the plugin that caused the problem, I’m not sure if it was an exploit or an error with WP 2.7 (although, it worked fine for the weeks that I had 2.7, just yesterday it decided to screw up)
I replaced Wordpress with WP 2.7.1 and moved my plugins to another folder on my web host (rendering them useless) that did the trick, I was able to login and disable the plugins.
so you were hacked via a plugin?
It appears so.. The plugin worked for 2 weeks and then just decided to stop working on Saturday.. Pretty suspicious to me
glad it worked out. Its pretty much why lately I”m hesitant to update preexisting plugins without doing a web search on some reviews. This also made me backup my Database also when i first read your post.
A great thing to do… Speaking of which…
I had the same problem. I don’t think I was hacked but it did stop working. There were no signs of intruders and my AdWords account remains the same (untouched?). Hopefully someone fixes this problem so I can go back to having my blog the way I want it. Regards!
Only the plugin author (or a PHP coder) would be able to fix it to work with 2.7.1 – Our hands our tied, unfortunately.
Thanks for sharing, but I don’t think that this is the only reason (this plugin you mention)that one may get the “Email Could Not be Sent” error from WordPress…. it could be because phpmail is really disabled on the server ?
Just a thought…
You showed real class for apologizing for your recent allegations about a german hacker. Most people would have not recanted their statement even if they found out they were wrong.
